The Head Tummy Tail Story
Handwriting Made Easy was born from a simple observation: many South African learners struggle with handwriting, not because they lack ability, but because traditional teaching methods can be confusing and overwhelming.
Our founder, an experienced product development specialist, developed the Head, Tummy, Tail system as a visual, memorable way to help children understand letter formation. This age old teaching technique has been around for many years and have been used to teach children in multiple countries globally. By breaking down the writing space into three clear zones, Head (top), Tummy (middle), and Tail (bottom)—learners can quickly grasp where each letter belongs. By using our unique mascot driven character to show the 3 tier handwriting technique it simplifies the visual connection between character and letters.
What started as a classroom innovation where our mascot was printed in the margin of the exercise books, has grown into a comprehensive literacy program, validated in over 120 classrooms and trusted by educators across South Africa. Today, HTT offers workbooks, posters, trace mats, and soon, an interactive mobile app. All designed to make handwriting simple, fun, and effective.
